How I Sourced This List
I deliberately did not pull this from Internshala, Naukri, LinkedIn, Glassdoor, or Indeed. Those are fine tools, but a "job listed on Naukri" isn't a company — it's a search result that could vanish tomorrow. Instead, every entry below is a real, operating company with a hiring pattern for Python/AI/ML freshers, linked directly to their own official careers page.
I've deliberately mixed three tiers:
- YC-backed early-stage startups — small teams, direct founder access, fast growth
- Mid-size product & AI specialist firms — funded, stable, hire freshers regularly, but don't have the brand recognition (or the flood of applicants) that Google/Amazon/Microsoft get
- Larger but still lesser-known product companies — profitable, high-paying relative to service companies, and nowhere near as competitive to get into as the household names
None of these are "easy," but all of them get dramatically fewer applications than the companies every fresher already knows about — which is exactly where your odds improve.

Larger, profitable, real product companies. Not unknown, but genuinely less brutal to get into than Google/Amazon/Microsoft, and they pay well above the average service-company fresher CTC.

Before You Apply — Checklist
- Read the full JD on the company's own site — not a cached job-board snippet
- Is a stipend/CTC actually mentioned? If not, ask before the interview, not after an offer
- Check the company on Glassdoor for genuine employee reviews before accepting
- Do you have a real Python project on GitHub to link? (a small CRUD API or data pipeline counts)
- For analytics/AI firms — can you talk through a project using SQL + Python together, not just one or the other?
- For YC startups — read the founder's YC profile and recent posts before the interview; it shows genuine interest
Minimum Skill Bar to Be Competitive
To have a real shot at any role on this list, you need at least two of:
- Python syntax + OOP (classes, inheritance)
- One framework — Flask, Django, or FastAPI
- Basic SQL — SELECT, JOIN, INSERT, GROUP BY
- REST API concepts (GET/POST, status codes, JSON)
- For AI/ML-specific roles: pandas, NumPy, and at least a basic understanding of one ML library (scikit-learn or a deep learning framework)
- Git — commit, push, clone, basic branching
A small personal project — a to-do API, a scraper that feeds a small ML model, a data pipeline pulling from a public API — is worth more in an interview than certificates listed on your resume.
Why "Less Known" Often Means "Higher Paying, Less Competition"
A fresher applying to Google or Amazon in India is competing against tens of thousands of other applicants for a handful of seats. A fresher applying to Mu Sigma, Setu, Skit.ai, or BrowserStack is competing against a fraction of that number — and several of these companies pay meaningfully better than the average service-company fresher offer once you account for stock, bonuses, and faster promotion cycles in smaller, flatter teams.
None of this is a guarantee — every company above still has a real bar to clear. But the odds math is genuinely different, and that's worth knowing before you spend all your applications on the five companies every other fresher is also applying to.
